BlackBerry Torch 9860 (Monza), It is a quad-band GSM and tri-band UMTS world phone; it is the newly launched (upcoming) GSM Smartphone by BlackBerry. It has dimension of 120 x 62 x 11.5 mm and 135gm weight. It operates with BlackBerry OS 7 and has 1.2 GHz processor (CPU). It also supports NFC feature, NFC feature allows for simplified transactions, data exchange, and connections with a touch.

The BlackBerry Torch 9860/9850 features a 3.7-inch touch screen display, the largest yet for a Black Berry. Although not the sharpest screen on the block yet a very clear, bright and good looking screen. The device is nearly all screens, saving the bottom for raised buttons and the track pad for navigation. The images and video clippings sport a smooth look with bright colors.

The raised buttons and track pad kind of take away from the overall aesthetic of the device, the buttons being super thin and hardly felt under your fingers. If you rub them side to side a bit it almost feels like they could snap right off. Also the onscreen keyboard feels a bit cramped and typing at a quick pace without making mistakes a bit hard, though once you adjust to using it, there really isn?t much bad to be said about it.

The left side of the device seems to be a bit lonely with just the micro USB port. Also Interesting to note is that the only place the device is branded is here on the battery door and no such branding on the front of the BlackBerry Torch 9860 and BlackBerry Torch 9850.However, on the brighter side, it can be said that these is one of the fastest Black Berrys known. Enjoy the easy swiping through the various menus and quick launching of apps with the combination of the 1.2GHz processor and Black Berry OS 7's Liquid Graphics technology. RIM hypes on the OS 7's Web performance which is 40 percent faster than Black Berry OS 6 and 100 percent faster than Black Berry OS 5.

Indian mobile handset mkt grows by 15% in FY11

The Indian mobile handset market grew by 15 per cent to a whopping Rs 33,171 crore in 2010-11, with Nokia and Samsung emerging as top revenue earners, says a report.

According to an annual study by telecom industry journal Voice&Data, revenues of the Indian mobile handset market increased to Rs 33,171 crore in 2010-11 from Rs 28,897 crore an year ago.

Nokia retained the numero uno position in handset business with revenue of Rs 12,929 crore showing a growth of 0.2 per cent over Rs 12,900 crore it registered in FY 2009-10.

The Finnish firm has registered a flat growth as it lost market share in low-end segments to home grown handset makers such as Micromax, Karbonn and Spice whereas it's high-end phones faced a tough competition from brands like Samsung, BlackBerry and HTC.

"Nokia's loss market share due to lack of dual-SIM phones in its portfolio. Dual-SIM phones have become an increasing phenomenon among value conscious Indian consumers. For FY2010-11, Nokia enjoys a market share of 39 per cent," an analyst at Voice&Data said.

Nokia was followed by Samsung with an impressive 22 per cent rise in revenue to 5,720 crore. It has registered a market share of 17.2 per cent.

Samsung's success can be attributed to its rich product portfolio on various popular operating systems like Windows, Android and Bada. The company's entry level smartphone 'Wave' and 'Galaxy S' have been hugely successful during the period.

Micromax captured third slot with a revenue of Rs 2,289 crore in 2010-11, a 43 per cent jump from year-earlier. It has grabbed a market share of 6.9 per cent.

Canadian firm Research in Motion's brand BlackBerry and LG scored the fourth and fifth position with a revenue of Rs 1,950 crore and Rs 1,210 crore, respectively.

In terms of market share, BlackBerry has 5.9 per cent shares, while LG, has a market share of 5.5 per cent.

Interestingly, G' Five , which has market shares of four per cent, witnessed highest growth of 75.6 per cent in revenue. While, Spice has seen a 11.5 per cent decline in revenue.

Other top 10 handset players include G'Five with a revenue of (Rs 1,326 crore) Karbonn ( Rs 1,004 crore), Spice (Rs 920 crore), Maxx (Rs 745 crore) and Sony Ericsson (Rs 690 crore).

Most other Indian brands including Lava, Intex and Zen have shown almost a flat growth.

The price conscious Indian consumers could benefit in the current fiscal as domestic handset players like Maxx, Karbonn and Micromax roll out made in India handsets from their own manufacturing plants.

The 'Voice&Data 100' covered all the mobile handset companies doing business in India across categories like feature phones, multimedia phones, enterprise phones and smartphones.

Cellular South Motorola Milestone X now available for $149.99

Cellular South has added yet another Android-powered smartphone to its portfolio, the Motorola Milestone X. You may know this device as the Droid X for Verizon – the original, not the Droid X2. Since only Verizon has permission to use the Droid brand, the phone obviously needed to be renamed before it could be sold by Cellular South. In fact, Alltel also has this handset, and also calls it the Milestone X.

So that’s that. Cellular South is asking $149.99 for the device, but there are catches. First off, you’ll have to sign a new two-year contract with the carrier. Then, you will actually pay $199.99 when you order the phone. You’ll get a form that you can mail in later to receive $50 back – on a Visa prepaid card. Oh, and you have to get a data plan with that two-year contract.

If none of the above seems problematic to you, then you may want to head on over to Cellular South and get yourself a brand new Motorola Milestone X.

What you’re getting is a smartphone running Android 2.2 Froyo, and having a 4.3-inch 854×480 capacitive touchscreen, an 8 MP autofocus camera with LED flash, a 1 GHz processor, a 2 GB microSD card included in the sales package, Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth, and a 1540 mAh battery.

HTC EVO 4G Officially Getting Gingerbread Beginning Tomorrow

That was just a tad bit sooner than we expected, but who’s complaining? The folks at Sprint have just informed everyone that the HTC EVO 4G will be getting its official Gingerbread upgrade tomorrow, June 3rd. The update won’t be pushed to your phone at this time – you’ll have to ping Google’s servers for the goods. Those who’d rather wait for Sprint to notify them can wait until Monday, June 6th, but there really is no point unless you don’t want to be a guinea pig to any potential issues.

HTC EVO™ 4G from Sprint will receive the Android™ 2.3, Gingerbread, update through an over-the-air maintenance release beginning on Monday, June 6.

Sprint will send update notifications to users in waves. The notification will let users know the update is available and provide the simple two-step, over-the-air download instructions.
  • Users will receive a notification that Android 2.3 is available for download.
  • Once the user has downloaded the update, they will be prompted to install the update. The user will be notified that their device will be disabled during the installation process. The phone will be ready to use once the process completes.
For those who just can’t wait to get Android 2.3, there will be an easy user initiated option to download the upgrade starting on Friday, June 3. To access the update - from the home screen/Menu/Settings/System updates/HTC software Update. This will initiate the upgrade process.

The software release upgrades HTC EVO 4G to Android 2.3, Gingerbread. This version of Android improves download management through the Downloads application, offering the user easy access to any file downloaded from the browser, email or another application. It also fixes the devices ability to stream media through certain applications for the device.

Gingerbread restores HTC EVO 4G’s ability to sync multiple Gmail™ accounts, display email attachments in the email client and fixes battery discharge issues.
