Original HTC Desire to be discontinued

Production of the much-loved HTC Desire could be coming to an end, with the last batch of handsets having reportedly entered the UK.

That’s according to UK retailer Clove, which said: “We have been informed that no more will be coming into the UK. There are just a few handsets still available in the UK channel in varying colour variants.”

The phone-seller adds that it has essentially been replaced with the HTC Desire S, although support will continue for the original handset.



The HTC Desire made its debut back in February 2011, and paved its way as one of the most popular smartphones of the past 12 months, fighting off rivals from Apple and RIM. Since then, we’ve been treated to a myriad of Desire spin-offs, including the QWERTY-touting Desire Z and the mammoth-screened Desire HD.

If you’re keen to grab one while you still can, the HTC Desire in Graphite and White are still available from Clove.co.uk. The graphite model will cost you £259.00, with it’s pearly-white sibling fetching just £219.00. For this bargain price-tag, you’ll be treated to a 3.7-inch SLCD display, Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS, HTC Sense UI, a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, and all the usual connectivity options (Bluetooth, HSDPA, WiFi).
