Unlocked iPhone With T-Mobile in USA

We all know that AT&T will soon be acquiring T-Mobile and Apple has shown no signs of bringing iphone to the latter, but this has not stopped the customer from unlocking the iPhone and using it on T-Mobile. T-Mobile USA today reported that more than a million iPhones are currently active on their network, just ahead of the Pepcom event in NYC.

When asked for further details T-Mobile responded by saying that most of the handsets were pre-iPhone 4s mainly because the 3G and 4G data speeds of T-mobile cannot be received on an iPhone 4 due to radio difference between the networks. T-Mobile also does not provide Micro- SIM, so people using an iPhone 4 have to modify their SIM cards into Micro-SIMs. Unlocked iPhone 4s where announced by Apple just a few weeks back but that has not increased the number of iPhone 4 users on T-Mobile because of the above issues.

When asked about availability of Micro SIMs on T-Mobile, they replied by saying that it will be coming shortly maybe after the deal with AT&T is finalized .

US Army wants to defend freedom with iPhones, Droids

The United States Army has begun field-testing off-the-shelf smartphones and tablets for use in combat in Texas and the New Mexico desert.

The Army is testing a variety of software applications that could potentially do things like stream video from surveillance cameras or access remote databases using iOS and Android devices,.

Using commercial developers as well as in-house personnel, the Army has developed around 85 applications and invested about $4.2 million in the project. Though they already have the technology to do the things they want to do with the smartphones, using consumer technology could help them deploy it better, since the devices are lighter, easier to use, and relatively inexpensive.

With common consumer equipment being used by troops, the Army could redirect resources to develop software specific to missions or mission types. An app being tested called “SoldierEyes” uses a camera and augmented reality to provide real-time information on battlefield elements. While such concepts could prove extremely useful, the technology won’t be practical for battlefield use without a secure network backbone.

And hopeful iPhone owners shouldn’t go enlisting just yet; the army has no plans to put a smartphone in each soldier’s hand, but instead has specific positions in mind with which to implement the technology. Project leader Michael McCarthy told wsj.com, “We want to give people the right phones for the right reasons, not just give them another shiny thing to hang on their equipment carriers.”

Orange UK Introduces iPhone and iPad Connect Plan

For those who can’t decide on the latest iPhone or an iPad, Orange UK has the solution for you: why not get both under one monthly plan that allows you to connect with both devices.

Billed as the Connected Plan, for £99 ($161) upfront, users can get their hands on a 16GB iPhone 4 and a 16GB iPad 2 on a £65 ($106) monthly contract for a two-year period. The plan will allow for 600 talk minutes, unlimited texts, WiFi connectivity, and a 2GB data allowance for the two devices.

The plan still seems on the high side, but is still more affordable than two separate contracts. It’s more likely though that Apple fans will wait until the iPhone 5 makes its debut before splurging on the Connected Plan.

The plan is open for existing Orange customers, but for those wanting to join, an additional £50 ($81) will be charged
