Hitachi's new smartphone display offers 4.5 inches of 3D

Hitachi announced a new smartphone display this week that is capable of displaying 3D content without requiring the user to wear 3D glasses. The new display features a large, 4.5-inch size, and has a higher resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels than we have seen from previous 3D displays for smartphones.

Hitachi says the new display has a higher quality image than previous generations thanks to a new lenticular lens array. The new display is based on IPS technology and features 400 cd/m2 brightness in 2D mode or 470 cd/m2 brightness when in 3D mode.

The new screen can be used in portable TVs, cellphones, or handheld gaming devices. No word on when it will be available in devices on the market

Sony Ericsson launch 2 new phones

Sony Ericsson has been running a competition on its Facebook page for the fans to review two of its phone before its official release. Now they have officially unveiled Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman, which is a music phone and Sony Ericsson txt pro with slide out QWERTY keypad.

Both these phones is Wi-Fi enabled and has corner user interface in the home screen, similar to the Xperia mini phones.



The Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman has feature called Zappin that lets you browse through your songs in a new way and comes with karaoke feature while playing the songs. This phone is 14.3mm thick and weighs 88g. It has 3 inch (400 x 240 pixels), 262,144 colour TFT scratch-resistant, capacitive touch screen, 100MB inbuilt memory and expandable external memory up to 32GB, 3.2 MP camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB 2.0 prot, FM radio with RDS.

Cellular South Motorola Milestone X now available for $149.99

Cellular South has added yet another Android-powered smartphone to its portfolio, the Motorola Milestone X. You may know this device as the Droid X for Verizon – the original, not the Droid X2. Since only Verizon has permission to use the Droid brand, the phone obviously needed to be renamed before it could be sold by Cellular South. In fact, Alltel also has this handset, and also calls it the Milestone X.

So that’s that. Cellular South is asking $149.99 for the device, but there are catches. First off, you’ll have to sign a new two-year contract with the carrier. Then, you will actually pay $199.99 when you order the phone. You’ll get a form that you can mail in later to receive $50 back – on a Visa prepaid card. Oh, and you have to get a data plan with that two-year contract.

Vodafone to launch “entry level” Facebook Phone

Vodafone is reportedly prepping an entry level Facebook Phone, in a bid to compete with the HTC ChaCha.

That’s according to Unwired View, which got its hands on an snapshot (right) of Voda’s so-called “Facebook Phone”. It may look a lot like HTC‘s effort, but according to the tech spies, it’s an “entry level handset” and won’t run Google’s Android OS. However, it will arrive equipped with a full QWERTY keypad, and a dedicated Facebook key.

With a focus on the social-network, Facebook’s features will be tightly-knit into its feature-phone OS, as shown in the blurrycam snap. This’ll offer instant access to Facebook Chat, Messages and Photos and Contact, although we’re not so sure what those other icons point to.

Other specifications include also a landscape display, a rear-facing camera, and what looks like a front-facing videocall cam.

The unnamed handset is expected to launch in “most of the markets” where Facebook is available, which luckily for us, means it’ll be hitting the UK. It’s pricing and release date is still to be confirmed, although it’s likely to be available on pay as you go.

HTC Wildfire S Features

The HTC Wildfire S was recently launched in India for Rs. 14,700 and is a successor to the original Wildfire that was launched last year in August in India. The original Wildfire was a pretty good phone that was built well and had good features but was let down by a poor screen and camera. Now that the Wildfire S is here, let's see how it improves upon the formula.

1. Display: The Wildfire S now has a screen with 320x480 pixels as compared to the Wildfire's 240x320 screen. This means more pixels which will means a better looking display. However, the color output has gone down to 256K colors from 16M colors and the screen size remains the same at 3.2-inches.

2. Hardware: The Wildfire S is clearly a more powerful smartphone with a 600MHz processor and 512MB of RAM. The Wildfire had to suffice with a 528MHz processor and 384MB of RAM.

3. Operating System: The original Wildfire had launched with Android 2.1 (Eclair) and was later upgradeable to Android 2.2 (Froyo). The Wildfire S comes with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) which adds a bunch of new features including an overall smoother experience and better text input options.

4. Multimedia: While there isn't too much of a difference in the multimedia capabilities of the two phones, the Wildfire S does provide out of the box XviD support which the Wildfire lacked.

5. Price: When the Wildfire first launched it was priced at Rs. 16,590 and the price gradually went below the Rs. 15,000 mark and now stands at about Rs. 11,500. The Wildfire S has a launch price of Rs. 14,700 which puts it comfortably within the realm of a mid-range smartphone.
