Toshiba Thrive Android Honeycomb tablet unmasked

Toshiba has finally given a name to its long rumoured Android Honeycomb tablet – the Toshiba Thrive.

Initially launched as the “Toshiba Tablet” at January’s CES, the manufacturer has finally confirmed that it’ll arrive dubbed the “Toshiba Thrive”. Its specs have also been given the full official run down, confirming that it’ll land running Android 3.1 OS and rocking Nvidia’s dual-core Tegra 2 chipset.

There’s also a 10.1-inch IPS display, which’ll offer one-touch access to the tablet’s pre-loaded Google widgets, QuickOffice, and LogMeIn, which enables users to remotely login to a Windows or Mac compute. Connectivity-wise there’s a HDMI port, alongside a function called “USB Host”, which means you’ll be able to plug in a mouse, keyboard, game pad or external hard drive.

Other specifications include a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2 megapixel front-facing webcam, microSD memory expansion, Bluetooth, and WiFi connectivity. There’s even a removable battery that promises up to seven hours of continuous HD video playback, and claims recharge up to 90 percent in just an hour and a half.

Unfortunately, the Toshiba Thrive has only been announced in the US only, and looks set to hit shelves in just one month’s time Pricing is as follows: $429 (£260) for 8GB, $479 (£290) for 16GB, $579 (£355) for 32GB.
