Android 3.1 “delayed until August” in the UK

Google‘s latest tablet-optimized OS bump – Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) – has reportedly been delayed until August in the UK.

The new version of Google’s Honeycomb OS is making its debut in the States on July 17th, Samsung confirmed today. However, according to self-styled mobile insider Eldar Murtazin, it won’t be making its first UK appearance until August, due to unexplained “issues” with the updated platform.

Murtazin tweeted: “Launch of Google android 3.1 postponed to august in most countries. You couldnt buy new tablets with it untill this time. Good news for aapl”

A second tweet from the Russian blogger reveals that this’ll delay the release of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1, which won’t be landing until the OS drops in Q3 2011.”Samsung tablets 8.9 and 10.1 delaying until august in europe due to android 3.1 issues and thats google decision”, he added.

This news comes just hours after Toshiba launched the Android 3.1-touting Toshiba Thrive, which is pegged to be landing in August. Alongside it’s Honeycomb OS, it rocks a 10.1-inch IPS display, Nvidia’s dual-core Tegra 2 chipset, 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2 megapixel front-facing webcam, USB and HDMI connectivity. There’s no word as to whether the Thrive will also be delayed, although we’ve been in touch with Toshiba for further confirmation.
